Born in Southern Iowa, I have enjoyed playing live music for over 35 years in various bands throughout Iowa including Snydly Whiplash, My Dog Jeff, Skinny Dennis, Terre Haute, Black Dirt Conspiracy, The Thievin' Crows and various guest appearances in many bands. I grew up listening to Hank Williams Sr and Outlaw Country with my father and Elvis Presley with my mother. I was heavily influenced by Waylon Jennings, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash, Molly Hatchet and most Southern Fried Rock bands. I am a proud Marine Corps Veteran of Desert Storm and love this country. Rest assured that Red Dirt Renegade will always have the 6 of all veterans.........Semper Fidelis.
I was asked to front Red Dirt Renegade in 2019 and somewhat reluctantly agreed to meet Jason and Larry to see if we clicked. Although intimidating due to both of them being fine musicians I was quickly accepted and realized they are even better people. The rest is history and I'll ride this horse until it is dead.
Founder, bandleader, the guy that made RDR happen. Jason has been playing guitar professionally since 2006. He’s played lead guitar with some of the busiest working bands in Iowa. Heavily influenced by Bakersfield country, Southern Rock, 50’s rockabilly and 70’s Outlaw Country. Known as the Tycoon of Twang, Jason easily handles all genres of music and has an exceptional ear for tone and if you couple that with his outstanding collection of amps and guitars then you're in for a treat.
I started playing at age 7. Steel guitar was my first love and in my very early teens I found I could play other instruments too. My parents were very supportive and there was always music in our house. I took formal lessons for seven years on steel, but taught myself guitar, bass, drums, banjo and square neck dobro.
In the 80’s I discovered bluegrass music after playing in several rock bands, I found myself touring with a fantastic bluegrass band called First Impression. We received many awards regionally and in 2001 won the SPGMA International Bluegrass Band Competition in Nashville. I really enjoyed those years and time I spent traveling and playing on the road, and still get to play with my dear First Impression family occasionally. In 2004 I came back to DesMoines from Minneapolis where I had been teaching music and playing, To be closer to family and slow down.
I got to meet and play with some great local musicians and would end up being introduced to Jason Boggs. We had very similar goals and Jason had made the choice to start an Outlaw Country Band. I’m proud to say, Jason and I are the last of the founding members of Red Dirt Renegade. There have been a few personnel changes, but they were carefully thought through, and the band is stronger than ever!! We are all looking forward to bringing our brand of entertainment back out to the masses!
He plays bass and dances.
Jeffrey brings a ton of energy and strong hard hitting drumming to every show.
Regardless if it's a huge festival or a packed bar we believe that our fans are the finest around. We will always throw down for our loyal 'Renegades'
